Obituary

Funeral services for Benjamin Franklin Shannon Sr., fondly known as “Ben,” will be held on Friday, January 25, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at the Mt. Olive Funeral Home Chapel in Hugo, OK with Pastor Greg Halley officiating with burial to follow at the Springs Chapel Cemetery in Hugo, OK. Ben passed from this life into the loving arms of the Lord, Tuesday, January 22, 2019, in Durant, OK, at the age of 87.

Benjamin (Ben) Franklin Shannon Sr. was born April 16, 1931, in Ft. Towson, OK to Charles Lee Shannon and Grace Lee (Williams) Shannon. He married Opal Alberta Sue Calhoun, February 25, 1956, and they enjoyed 62 wonderful years together. Ben was of the Assembly of God faith and had lived in the Choctaw area all of his life. He loved hearing the roosters crow in the morning, drinking coffee, and camping out at the lake. Ben liked playing the guitar, singing, telling jokes, making people laugh, and cutting up. He enjoyed traveling in his younger years, and hunting and fishing. Ben also enjoyed spending time with all of his family and friends. He will truly be missed by all that knew and loved me.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Grace Shannon; 3 brothers; and 3 sisters.

Ben is survived by his wife, Sue, of the home; 6 sons, Albert Charles Shannon and Barbara West, of Craig, CO, Benjamin Franklin “Frank” Shannon Jr., of Hugo, OK, Gerald Wayne Shannon and wife, Lynn, of Hugo, OK, Terry Lee Shannon and Toni Strickland, of Hugo, OK, Nathan Allen Shannon, and wife Terumi, of Okinawa, Japan, and Timothy Daryl Shannon, of Hugo, OK; 1 daughter, Cheryl Ann Reed and husband, Don, of Powderly, TX; 23 grandchildren; and 53 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Family will receive friends Thursday, January 24, 2019, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m., at the Mt. Olive Funeral Home Chapel.
